What is known is that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance and that St. Valentine’s Day, contains vestiges of both Christian and Roman tradition.
Catholic Church recognized three or more saints named Valentine/us and all were martyred.
One of the many legend's contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome.
When Emperor Claudius II decided that the single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for the young men.
Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.
When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered to be executed.

A few More Ideas for Valentines Day
Usually, people buy flowers for sure during that day and maybe something with hearts, sexy underwear and etc.
The good restaurants and romantic hotels around Warsaw are possibly fully booked and if you want to find an awesome place, you need to book in advance.
Something that might not worth is that during that day the restaurants create special menus and the many places go overpriced.
In my opinion, it doesn't worth going out that day and it might be a better idea to buy a nice bottle/s of wine and cook something nice for him/her.
Light some candles, put some nice music, dance together, drink, and make love.
When it comes to a family with kids things become a bit more complicated. Except for all the above, you can still make a nice present to each other.
We should make nice presents to each other not only on Valentine's Day, Name Day, Anniversary's and Birthday's but also other times.
